2007 Thompson Vineyard Syrah
The exotic aromas of clove, cinnamon and lead pencil lead to a glass-stainer that also offers French notes of pepper and garrigue. “Spicy, ripe and delightful” are what I wrote in my notebook, along with the succinct snippet, “complicated, with big fruit.” The inclusion of 25% whole clusters is probably the source of that spice rack of flavors, along with a firmness that will ultimately yield and allow this Syrah to age without the need for a Botox adjustment in its latter years.
